How to enter... shutterbug 08
Entry Requirements
The Festival will only accept entries from non-professional photographers or students of photography. ‘Professional’ is defined as someone making a regular income from photography, (more than $5000 per year, full time or part time). All images remain the copyright of the photographer.
The Theme
The entry requires a series of photographs that will be shown as a slide show presentation on the Festival night. (Please see 2007 finalists work)
Photographers are asked to submit a series of photographs with the same theme. The theme of the series is at the photographer’s discretion but each image in the series must be clearly linked by that chosen theme, eg. The Beach, Day at the Races, Street Portraits, Landscapes, Fashion, India, Kenya, Amazon Tribe, Surfing etc etc The list is endless…… (check the 2007 contestants photos for possible themes)
The minimum number in the series is 20 images and the maximum is 40 images.
There is no limit to the number of photo series submitted by any one photographer, but only one will be chosen for projection.
Digital submissions only
SHUTTERBUG 08 accepts digital submissions only. All submissions must be on disk (CD or DVD). Files may not be sent by e-mail. Please label the disc clearly with your full name and mobile phone number.
The submission must be clearly labeled numerically in the order the photographer would like them shown with your full name as the file name, eg.
- John SmithA 1.jpg
- John SmithA 2.jpg
- John SmithA 3.jpg
- ...
Or for more than one submission:
- John SmithB 1.jpg
- John SmithB 2.jpg
- Etc……
And so on for all submissions…..
The final number and edit of images selected for projection will be at the discretion of the selection panel. Editing will be discussed with each photographer prior to screenings.
All Finalists will be notified with regards to the status of their entry.
File specifications
- All files should be as large as possible. (the finalists work will be shown on a cinema screen)
- All files should be in Jpeg format.
- Photoshop and similar software can be used to any degree the photographer would like, but no masks, borders, backgrounds or similar effects are allowed.
- The images may not show the name of a photographer.
Entry Fee
The Entry cost is $20.00 per photographer. (multiple entries from a photographer are covered by this fee). The fee can be paid by cheque, money order or direct deposit. DO NOT SEND CASH.

Checklist - to accompany each entry:
- Your Name
- Title of Work
- Type of Camera used. (Digital Compact, Digital SLR. Film SLR etc
- Mobile Phone Number ( Photographers will be notified of status by SMS)
- Address and Email
- A short synopsis about the body of work, and why you chose to photograph it.

Please note that SHUTTERBUG will publish the names of finalists on press releases and on the SHUTTERBUG website. Any images wished to be used in relation to press and publicity of the festival will be sought with the permission of the photographer. All copyright remains with the photographer.
