What it is... shutterbug 08

The Shutterbug 08 Photography Festival was held on Tuesday 3rd June at The Chauvel Cinema, Paddington.

The food was amazing, drinks were flowing and the work of this year’s Ten Finalists was shown to a packed audience on the big screen.

"The standard was exceptionally high. Very impressed!" said Peter Eastway of Better Photography, one of this year’s judges.

Some of the other judges involved in this year were Marc Gafen of Capture Magazine and Malcolm Smith and Tony Nolan from the Australian Centre for Photography.

Much awarded photo-journalist, Tamara Dean, also joined the judging ranks this year and a selection of her work was enjoyed by the audience on the night.

Shutterbug has fast become a major event on the Sydney calendar and a quality forum for non-professional photographers from around Australia.

The vision behind the festival is to give talented photographers an opportunity to show their work via this tough competition.

The submission requirements are a minimum of 20 images in a theme, with the competition designed to encourage excellence across a body of work rather than a single image.

"When you see the amazing photography of the 10 finalists and special guest photographers on the big screen in a multi-media slide show, it's hard to visit a boring gallery again"… Dean Tirkot, Fashion Photographer.

Charlie Brewer, picture editor from www.news.com.au (News Ltd) attended the night and was so impressed with the work he asked to highlight it on their news site.

The Finalists' work and some highlights from the night are online to view now.
